Today another whirlwind visit to three places: the huge complex of temples at Patan, and the smaller, quieter villages of Bungmati and Kokhani.
This fellow was walking down a street in Kokhani with this unusual instrument, and we tried to coax him to play it. Finally he agreed and grabbed a huge bag of ratty looking sheep fleece. He laid a large poster on the ground and dumped some of the fleece onto it. Then he sat down, and with his instrument, began flicking at it. I believe it is a tool used to separate the fleece, to sort of clean it and get it ready for the next process! I think we were all quite surprised to find that it wasn't a musical instrument! I love the expression on his face!
The view is different from the previous image, but I think you can recognize some of the same buildings. In this photo, just to the right of the group of people and between where the male photographer stands, is a gaping hole where the large white temple once stood. On the far left are bricks salvaged from the ruins, to be used once reconstruction begins.
